Cut-to-length of coils

We turn coils into flat steel sheets in the exact length you need. We level and cut the material, then stack it into bundles ready for further processing.

What cut-to-length processing of coils means

Material for cut-to-length processing arrives at our plant as a coil: a long steel strip wound into a roll. A single coil can weigh up to 30 tonnes.

On the cut-to-length line, we gradually uncoil and level the strip, then cut it across its width into sheets of the required length. The result is a prepared bundle of sheets ready to go straight into your production.

The main advantage is that you are no longer limited to standard stock sizes. You choose the sheet length to suit the parts you will make. This uses material more efficiently, reduces offcuts and removes the need to shorten the finished sheets later.

In repeat or series production, these savings grow with every delivery.

Why cut-to-length includes levelling

Coiled sheet can retain some curvature after uncoiling. It also retains residual stress from production, which may not be visible at first sight.

The problem often only becomes apparent when a part is cut out. Residual stress is released and the material can bow, twist or lift.

During laser cutting, this can reduce cutting accuracy and, in extreme cases, cause the sheet to contact the cutting head or stop production.

That is why we level the sheet before cutting it to length. It passes through a series of precisely adjusted rolls that gradually level it and significantly reduce residual stress while preserving the material’s mechanical properties.

The result is a flatter, more stable sheet that retains the required shape better after cutting.

How cut-to-length works

We place the coil on the cut-to-length line’s uncoiler. The steel strip gradually unwinds and moves into the levelling section.

After levelling, the line measures each sheet’s length individually. It does not rely on a single setting at the start of the coil. Once the required length is reached, the shear cuts across the strip and the finished sheet is automatically stacked into a bundle.

The entire process takes place on one line, with no unnecessary material transfers between operations. As each sheet is measured individually, we can consistently maintain the required length throughout the entire coil.

The sheets we can produce

We process material from 2 to 15 mm thick and coils up to 2,000 mm wide.

The largest sheet we can produce measures 2,000 × 12,000 mm.

For cut-to-length of coils, the length tolerance is ±1 mm. When cutting finished sheets to shorter lengths, the tolerance is ±2 mm.

The cross-cut produces a straight, clean edge. In most standard applications, sheets can therefore go straight to laser cutting, welding or further processing.

The steel grades we most commonly cut are:

Processing options depend on the combination of grade, strength, thickness, width and required length. If you need a different grade or a tighter tolerance, include this in your order. We will check whether we can meet it for the material and dimensions concerned.

Additional services with cut-to-length

On request, we can carry out further processing, protect the finished sheets and prepare them for safe transport.

  • Surface brushing Rotary brushes remove mill scale, surface oxidation, fine burrs and dust. This prepares the sheet for cutting, welding, painting or further surface treatment.
  • VCI film wrapping Protective film guards against corrosion during storage and transport without oil or wax. Once unwrapped, the sheet is ready for further processing.
  • Transport We prepare material for road or rail transport. We supply customers in Slovakia and neighbouring countries.

Who cut-to-length is for

This service is particularly suitable for companies that need precise, repeatable sheet dimensions and want to put material into production without unnecessary further modifications.

Cut-to-length is mainly used by:

  • laser and CNC cutting centres,
  • engineering companies and component manufacturers,
  • steel structure manufacturers,
  • automotive industry suppliers,
  • tank and storage vessel manufacturers,
  • industrial racking and storage system manufacturers.

We only need five details to prepare a quotation

Send us:

  • the required steel grade,
  • material thickness,
  • sheet width,
  • the required sheet length,
  • quantity in pieces or tonnes.

You can also include your required delivery date, packaging method and whether the material should be prepared for laser cutting.

If you are unsure about the right grade or dimensions, tell us what you make from the sheet and how you will process it. We will propose a solution that suits your production.
